5 tips to complete your physics homework

Having a huge pile of homework staring at you all week long can be very intimidating and can feel like a very daunting task. But there is a great way to keep yourself motivated and positive and to stay on track as you work. By dividing up your homework into smaller pieces and projects and by setting goals to accomplish it breaks the big assignment into smaller pieces so they are easier to complete and you feel like you are making progress and moving forward every time you can check something off of your list. Setting goals is important but you need to make sure you set goals in the right way. A good way to remember how to do this is to remember the word SMART.

  • Specific
  • Figure out what specific things have to be completed in order to finish the project and determine the order things need to be done in. Also make sure you know who else is involved and who you are working with if this is a group project. Check and double check the due date so you know how much time you have for the homework.

  • Measurable
  • By making smaller more manageable and attainable goals to get one assignment done really goes a long way in helping you get done. Break big assignments into smaller ones to help you see the progress you have made. You might not be done with all of your math homework yet but you have cross off 5 pages of work and have 2 left so you can see the great progress you have made!

  • Achievable
  • It is so very important to have goals that are achievable and realistic. Setting unrealistic goals is a sure way to set yourself up for failure and frustration. If you have just an hour for one study session, that is not the time to have a goal of writing a 5 page research paper or reading 50 pages from your literature assignment.

  • Relevant
  • Make sure that while working on your homework you are focusing on things relevant to the assignment. Don’t get distracted by the computer, your phone, or the TV. Find a quite and distraction free place to work so you can focus and be much more productive.

  • Time-bound
  • Set deadlines and do not waver on them unless you have to. If a paper is due on Wednesday tell yourself it is due Monday or Tuesday so you have a little emergency time built in, but don’t use it unless you actually need to!
